Management of Pain with Controlled Substances.
Pain is sometimes undertreated and sometimes over treated. Pain control is important to us, but so is your safety. New Mexico Medical is not a pain management clinic, nor does NMM have any pain specialists on staff.
All providers have had continuing education requirements for pain management, as mandated by the licensing boards of the State of New Mexico. NMM also strives to stay within the Washington Guidelines in regards to pain management with opiates, and other methods of pain management are encouraged prior to the use of opiates. Providers are not obligated to prescribe any controlled substances at any visit. NMM has a detailed pain management policy forthcoming that will be instituted company-wide in late 2016/early 2017.
Pain clinics and specialists are available in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, or other major areas throughout New Mexico. Referrals to pain clinics may be obtained by seeing any of our providers at any of the Family Practice offices with a scheduled appointment.
If your pain is outside the scope of our practice, we will help you find a specialist who can care for you.
